Review: Dimdim, the WebEx killer
Who says good things don't come free? As in open source free. Dimdim is an online meeting suite, much like WeEx except it is an open source package. As you know, we are fans of open source here at Jambo Consulting, so it's no surprise that we have adopted Dimdim for our meeting needs. (We still love iChat, though!)The basic, free registration will allow up to 20 participants in a meeting. You'll get many great features for free: video (host), audio (dial-in or VOIP), desktop sharing, whiteboard sharing, chatroom, recording, and integration with Zimbra or Outlook. Our experiences with Dimdim and its VOIP capability have been wonderful, although I'd recommend a good headset/microphone. The Web-based UI is very friendly and easy to use and runs on all the popular browsers.
It is in my mind a true WebEx killer.

Eugene, thanks for the great Dimdim comments! I agree with using a good headset/microphone. The built-in on my laptop is good, but definitely picks up too much background noise.

I'd add that it's completely cross-platform too. We've had meetings with Macs and PCs while utilizing Desktop Sharing, Whiteboard, and VoIP at the same time.
Although it Fullscreen mode isn't completely full screen. The OS X and browser toolbars seem to stay visible. - 11/13/2008 01:30:00 PM

Free is great, but a program that only works for 20 people wouldn't really be ideal for my company. We chose RHUB Web Conferencing (http://rhubcom.com/v4/web_conferencing/netmeeting_products.html)because it allows us to have the more participants.
