Tech: Extract .CAB files on a Mac
If you ever need to get the contents of a Windows .CAB file or other Windows files that don't normally open on Macs, try File Juicer out. By just dragging files onto the File Juicer program you can extract the contents from a whole array of different Windows only files.

Tech: SMS.ac = ScaMS
I've been receving invitations to join SMS.ac for a while now, I fell for it the first couple of times. But now I believe it is a complete scam. I'm not sure how they do it, but the invitations definitely spreads like a virus. I've received multiple invitations from the same friends that I know for a fact have never even heard of SMS.ac let alone send me invitations to sign -up. The common thread it seems is that all these are from friends on my MSN messenger list.http://www.ripoffreport.com/

Tech: Linux on iPod
Macworld has an article about putting Linux on a 3rd Generation iPod. The download can be found here from iPod-Linux-Installer.We installed this on a 3rd Generation iPod with no problems. It's pretty interesting to play with, but probably not really useful for most people since, music playback is not very well supported. It does offer a better sound recording feature though. The only hiccup we ran into was the contrast on our iPod was too low when the iPod booted into Linux. In case you run into the same problem here's a menu map to get to the contrast setting:
- Music
- Extras
- Settings >
- About
- Date & Time
- Repeat
- Shuffle
- Contrast
- About

Tech: Spotlight Shortcut Key
The default Spotlight shortcut key is Command+Space. This may not work however if you use multple input languages in your system, since Command+Space is the shortcut for switching languages. In this case Spotlight uses CTRL+Space as it's shortcut key. These keys can also be changed in System Preferences:
Goto System Preferences > Spotlight > 'Spotlight menu shortcut key:'
Or you can use Spotlight:
Click on the Spotlight icon > Enter "Spotlight" > Hit Return

Software: Mac-on-Mac
Macslash and Os News have reported a new emulator released for Tiger. It's Mac-on-Mac. It's probably not to useful for most people, but if you absolutely need OS 9 and Classic doesn't work too well, this might be your solution. It may also be helpful in the future when the new Intel Macs come out.

Tech: Can't burn purchased music from iTunes Music Store
Do you get this message when you're trying to burn music purchased from the iTunes Music Store:"None of the items in this playlist can be burned to disc."
This happens because iTunes is set to burn MP3 CDs. You will need to goto:
iTunes > Preferences > Burning
In this window you need to select either Audio CD or Data CD. See the Apple Documentation for more information.

Tech: Patchburn and PC DVD Writers
There are many very inexpensive DVD/CD writers out there for PCs. You can get a high quality Lite-On Dual Layer DVD writer for as little as $50. However, these drives do not work properly under Mac OS X. That's where Patchburn comes in. Using Patchburn you can enable disc burning when using these PC DVD/CD writers.

Tech: iPod not showing up?
If you have one of the newer iPods that only come with an USB cable, you may have problems getting it to work with your Mac. As it turns out, using the USB cable with a Mac requires you to have at least Mac OS X 10.3.4. So keep up with those software updates.
